"In all of these videos, a fixed camera presents us with extended and uniform images of various large and diverse sculptures located within the green lawns of the Tehran highway system. The strange and peculiar characters featured in these videos include two cheetahs (one in an attacking pose), a gigantic child lying in bed, a flock of sheep grazing, and similar scenes. Both the aesthetic form and the content of these sculptures can be considered simple and unpretentious.
We see passing cars and various flags fluttering in the wind, but we never see anyone else besides us paying attention to these sculptures in public spaces. It makes us wonder whether people can and are allowed to step onto these green fields, or if their hurried glances from inside their passing cars are sufficient.
The Highway Art series exclusively depicts and reflects upon a range of beautification activities carried out by an organization within the Tehran municipality called the Beautification Department./ Sadaf Vesai
